Internships

A limited number of unpaid internship positions are available each year. Each internship experience is custom tailored to meet the need of the student as well as organizational needs. Projects may focus on policy issues, data collection, safety education programs, community outreach, or a combination of these.

***WalkSanDiego currently has 2-3 internships available to support our Safe Routes to School and Complete Streets programs.

Examples of program tasks include: conducting fieldwork and taking photographs during walk audits and mapping exercises; assisting with workshop activities; preparing and updating program documents, presentations and/or spreadsheets; creating and designing outreach materials such as flyers and/or program incentive items; data entry; organizing a catalog of digital photos; and creating media and/or videos. Interns will receive training on their roles.

Qualified interns may include planning, graphic design, public health students or anyone whose interests align with WalkSanDiego’s mission. Preferred qualifications differ between programs and will be matched to applicants’ background, interests and experience. Interns who assist with fieldwork and workshops must have access to a personal vehicle. The ability to speak Spanish is also desirable, but not required. Applicants must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Experience with Picasa software and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) is highly desirable.
