Thanks
to members, friends, and newly converted "walktavists"
the Holiday Fundraiser was a smashing success!
We packed the house gained new members and most
importantly, we watched new converts rally to the cause
as the region's appalling pedestrian statistics and dismal
safety spending were revealed and WalkSanDiego's
many improvement efforts described.
Lynn Susholtz, one of the art gallery owners declared,
"I knew this group was doing good things, but tonight
I was MOVED. I have to join this organization!"
Fellow
gallery owner and public art designer, Aida Mancillas,
briefly described how the studio works to integrate art into
San Diego's pedestrian environment. Likewise, the working
studios of North Park Art Produce provided an intriguing
backdrop for the 70 or so attendees.
The food was excellent, as promised, a roving saxophonist
provided atmosphere, and networking among neighbors and professionals
was going full tilt. Decorated shoes and shoe-themed paintings
were displayed in the gallery's front windows.
In accepting WalkSanDiego's first Golden Footprints
Award, Councilmember Toni Atkins demurred, "I'm
almost embarrassed to accept this award. It is you all who
have done the hard work." Click

Ms. Atkins discussed how she recently moved to South Park,
where she regularly walks to the commercial node at 30th &
Grape, anchored by the legendary Big Kitchen restaurant.
Thanks to all who attended, volunteered, and/or made donations.
